Arizona State Open Championships

Registration/Weigh-ins: Tournament site, Friday April 21 from 6:30pm-8pmSaturday April 22 from 7am-8:30am

Coach/Referee Meeting: Saturday April 22 from 8:30am-9:30am

Tournament Start: Saturday April 22 promptly at 10am, starting with Junior & Masters divisions 

                                                                                11am, starting Adult Novice divisions

Awards: Gold medal, Silver medal and one bronze medal for each division

Judo GisA white Judo gi is required.  A blue Judo gi may be used only when the player is on the blue side.  Please bring your own blue and white belts.

JUNIORS (age 16 and younger):                               $30 first division

ADULTS (age 17 and older):                     $40 first division

ADDITIONAL DIVISIONS:                        $20 each additional division

Referee and Table Staff Training:  Thanks to those of you that come out and volunteer your time to help Arizona Judo tournaments!  This event would not be possible without your participation!

Eligibility: Proof of current insurance membership in USJA, USJF or USA Judo is required.  Foreign players must provide current insurance membership in their country’s recognized national Judo organization.  No AZ residency requirement.

Divisions: All divisions are determined at the time of weigh-ins and are subject to modification based on entries.  Each skill, gender and age category will be separated into weight divisions, generally: light, middle and heavy.  All decisions by the tournament director are final.  Junior Novice is defined as a player who holds a rank of yellow belt or below.  Adult Novice is defined as a player: who holds a rank of yonkyu or below, who has not won any advance divisions, who has not won 2 novice divisions and who has no more than 1-year of Judo experience.  Adult Brown is defined as a player who holds a rank of sankyu, nikyu or iikyu.

Rules: All matches will be conducted using the current IJF Contest Rules with the following modifications:

  1. No kansetsu-waza (arm locks) in [A] any junior divisions, [B] senior novice divisions or [C] senior brown-belt divisions.
  2. No shime waza (chokes) in: [A] any novice junior divisions or [B] regular junior divisions younger than 13-years old.
  3. No kanibasame (flying scissors) in any division.
  4. Hand touches below the belt during standing play will be a shido penalty.
  5. Three (3) shidos will be hansukomake loss for that match
